High School Art Appraised at $50K

The Antiques Roadshow is a PBS TV show that highlights interesting stories different paintings, rugs, jewelry pieces, sports memorabilia and sculpture. The appraisers give a potential value for those artworks/collectors items.

Recently an "ugly jug" was appraised at $30,000-$50,000. It was thought to have been made in the late 19th century. Boy were they wrong!

Turns out--the jug was made in the 1970's by a high school student! Even though the value did not stay at $50,000, it was reevaluated to be worth between $3,000-$5,000. Not bad for a student!

Just think!! If you work hard, put in the effort to make a lasting object that is interesting and well created, it could increase in value and bring joy to it's owner.

I'm always amazed when students give up on the "hard" projects. Push through! Try something extra, or change direction. Usually those "hard" projects end up being much more interesting and give a sense of accomplishment.

Thanks Dr. G for sending the article along!
